Message from CEO: Chris de Josselin
As we head into the new year, I wanted to share a brief update on what I’m seeing across the industry and what we’ve been focused on at Cerclos.
One thing that continues to stand out is how far ahead the UK is when it comes to whole-of-life carbon and net zero in real project delivery. In many parts of the world, this is still emerging. In the UK, it’s already part of how major projects are planned, procured and delivered.
We’re fortunate to be working on some very complex programs in this market. What I find most encouraging is how LCA is being used – not just to report outcomes at the end, but to actively shape decisions during design, procurement and delivery.
Consistently, what I see in the UK is:
- Carbon being considered much earlier in design
- More consistency in how assessments are done
- Client teams who are confident asking tough questions and digging into the data
This is particularly true across transport, major infrastructure and public-sector projects.
A big priority for me right now is taking what’s working well in the UK and applying those lessons in other markets – particularly across South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and more cautiously, the United States.
Across Asia-Pacific, there’s strong intent and genuine momentum. LCA is increasingly part of the success story on major projects. That said, there’s still a lot of variation in when carbon is assessed, how data is used, and how early insights feed into decisions. Our role is to help teams move faster by sharing practical experience from live projects – what works, what doesn’t, and where early decisions really matter.
In Australia, we’re seeing strong ambition but more variation in when carbon is assessed and how data is used to drive decisions. We’re focused on translating UK best practice into local delivery by helping teams embed carbon earlier in design, standardise assessment approaches, and use insights to inform procurement and delivery decisions. That means supporting teams with practical guidance, better alignment with rating schemes, and tools that enable confident, defensible decision-making.
At a simple level, that’s what we’re here to do: help teams make better, lower-carbon decisions earlier, using approaches that have already been tested on large, complex infrastructure programs.
The conversation has clearly shifted. The question is no longer whether to measure carbon – it’s how to make sense of growing amounts of data and turn it into decisions that actually change outcomes.
Which brings me to data.
We’re seeing increasing demand for more regional materials data, more EPDs, and more project-specific or client-supplied datasets. Personally, I see this as a positive. It’s exactly what modern carbon tools should be able to support.
At its core, the Cerclos platform is built to be flexible – able to work across different datasets, standards and rating schemes, while still being transparent and defensible. We want teams to choose the data and frameworks that matter to them, and for the technology to take care of the complexity behind the scenes.
Beyond the platform itself, I’m also seeing a shift in what teams are asking for. Many want more confidence around when to calculate carbon, how to interpret the results, and what to do next. We’re responding to that through clearer guidance, better alignment with rating schemes, and hands-on support for teams working through new requirements.
Net zero looks different in every market, and no two projects are the same. But shared learning makes a real difference, and I’m excited about the role Cerclos can play in helping teams move forward with confidence.
Looking ahead to 2026, our focus is simple: scale what works. That means continuing to bring global best practice into local delivery, expanding standards and dataset support, and making the platform faster and easier to use – all in support of credible, defensible net-zero outcomes.
