Cerclos is proud to be working alongside CIL Masterspec and BRANZ as an early adopter supporting the development and testing of direct API access to the National Embodied Carbon Repository (NECO2).
As embodied carbon assessment becomes increasingly important across New Zealand’s construction sector, access to trusted, standardised data is essential for improving consistency, transparency and confidence in carbon reporting. NECO2, developed with support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and endorsed as New Zealand’s national reference dataset for embodied carbon, provides a critical foundation for industry-wide alignment.
Direct API access represents an important step forward in making this data more accessible and practical to use. By enabling approved digital tools and platforms to connect directly with NECO2, the industry can reduce reliance on duplicated or manually maintained datasets, improve consistency between assessment methodologies and streamline embodied carbon reporting processes.
Cerclos sees strong value in integrating NECO2 into its digital assessment tools, eTool and RapidLCA. Direct access to the national repository will help practitioners work with reliable, up-to-date embodied carbon data within the platforms they already use, supporting more informed decision-making throughout the design and construction process.
